Famous Families & Curious Characters – People that shaped the Fal Estuary
One of a limited number of special cruises Heritage Adventures is offering in partnership with Fal River Cornwall, exploring the history and archaeology of the spectacular Fal Estuary on board the classic wooden ferry, the Moyana.
Take a guided evening cruise around the deep tidal basin of Carrick Roads and up the Penryn and Percuil rivers.
Discover how thousands of years of human activity have left their mark below and above the high water mark – from medieval ferry crossings and creekside churches to later forts, ports, quays, fish weirs, shipyards, tin mines and stately homes.
Hear true stories and tall tales about the famous and notorious characters who lived beside and sailed upon these waters, helping to shape the wonderful historic landscape we see today – military commanders, industrialists, politicians, shipbuilders, fishermen, ferry women and trail-blazing botanists, alongside schemers, rogues, smugglers and pirates.

‘Come aboard’ and let our guides, professional archaeologist Jeanette Ratcliffe and ‘Cornish Bird’ storyteller Elizabeth Dale, share this fascinating heritage with you.
