Your main guide will be Jeanette Ratcliffe, a local archaeologist with 40 years’ experience of carrying out heritage projects in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, including surveys of many of the sites and landscapes visited by Heritage Adventures.
After working for the Institute of Cornish Studies and Cornwall Archaeological Unit, she established herself as a freelance historic environment consultant, alongside running her own counselling practice.
Born in West Cornwall, the daughter of a fisherman, Jeanette has recently trained and worked in the local fishing industry and is Secretary of Newlyn Fishing, Industry, and Seafarer’s Heritage (FISH) Trust and a Newlyn Archive member.
A year-round, open-water swimmer, who also has her own boat, there is nothing she likes better than being in, on or next to the sea. Jeanette adds her love of things marine and maritime to her extensive archaeological and local knowledge to create Heritage Adventures for you that are truly unique.
From time to time, we will invite other local guides and specialists to add their different knowledge to Heritage Adventures’ walks and boat trips.

Elizabeth Dale is a Cornish writer who has been researching and writing about local history for her blog and podcast, The Cornish Bird, since 2016.
Born on a farm near Falmouth, she was the fourth generation of her family to grow up in the same house, and her roots in the area, and in Cornwall as a whole, run deep. She writes regularly for local and national publications and websites, has a weekly slot on Radio Cornwall and her passion for local history has also led to work on several TV shows about the region.
In 2022 Cornwall Heritage Trust presented Elizabeth their ‘Heritage Champion’ award for her significant contribution to preserving and disseminating Cornwall’s heritage.
And in recent years she has led guided, storytelling walks for Cornwall National Landscape, helping the public to engage with nature and the environment through Cornish history, myth and legend.
